100 DVDs to be stored on a single disc
New holographic storage technology will allow data equal to 100 DVDs to be stored on a single disc.
US-based General Electric (GE) claims to have achieved a major breakthrough in storage technology. The company has developed a new holographic storage technology that will allow data volumes equal to over 100 DVDs to be stored on a single disc. The current standard capacity of DVDs is 4.7 GB, and if this is to be believed, a disc will now be able to store a colossal 470 GB of data Microsoft MCTS Training.
The product, according to GE, is still in its testing phase and needs more work before it is launched. In the holographic technique, memory is stored in three dimensions as well as in the ‘normal' binary format. So this storage technique allows more data to be written on the same surface area. Holographic storage packs data more densely than conventional optical technology Microsoft MCITP Certification.
