Microsoft Office licensing now a bit easier for Citrix users

Microsoft Office licensing now a bit easier for Citrix users

Microsoft Office, Visio and Project are all device licensed applications. This means that a device holds the license, not the user. So every device that uses one of these products has to hold a license for the product.

That can make for an expensive proposition for companies who allow their users to access these applications via Citrix or Microsoft MCTS Training Application Virtualization (aka App-V or fka Softgrid) if that access isn’t limited to devices already licensed for those same applications. If users access these applications through Remote Desktop Services from their home computer, a loaner laptop or the computer at the hotel then suddenly those devices now need a license.

Companies that have maintained Software Assurance (SA) benefits on their applications have had access to a solution for the home computer situation for quite a while but now as of the July 1, 2010 Microsoft Product Use Rights (PUR) they finally have a solution for these other situations as well without having to purchase more licenses.

To quote: “…and Software Assurance for all editions of Office, Project and Visio to include Roaming Use Rights. These new Roaming Use Rights will help to facilitate your users’ use of your virtual desktop infrastructure while they are away from the office. The Roaming Use Rights permit the primary user of a licensed device to remotely access licensed software running in your datacenter from qualified third party devices. In the case of Windows, Office, Project and Visio, these rights also permit the primary user’s use of the licensed software in a virtual machine on a qualified third party device…”

Example 1:

A nationwide consulting firm assigns all users a laptop licensed for Microsoft Windows Enterprise and Microsoft Office Professional Plus. Additionally all users have Microsoft User CALs for Microsoft Windows Server, Exchange and Remote Desktop Services as well as Citrix licensing. The consulting firm licenses all Microsoft software with Software Assurance. Due to the nature of the business their users are frequently on client sites using client’s desktops. However; they often need to access their own company’s resources to collaborate with co-workers using Microsoft Office software. Due to the new “Roaming Use Rights”, they can now access their Citrix environment to run Office Professional from their client’s computer without need for additional licensing.

Example 2:

A nationwide consulting firm assigns all users a laptop licensed for Microsoft Windows Enterprise and Microsoft Office Professional Plus. Additionally all users have Microsoft User CALs for Microsoft Windows Server, Exchange and Remote Desktop Services as well as Citrix licensing. The consulting firm does not license their Microsoft software with Software Assurance. Due to the nature of the business their users are frequently on client sites using client’s desktops. However; they often need to access their own company’s resources to collaborate with co-workers using Microsoft MCITP Certification Office software. Since they do not have the “Roaming Use Rights” benefit of Software Assurance, any of these computers that doesn’t have the same or greater version/edition of Office would need to be licensed resulting in potentially unknown numbers of additional licenses required.

Be sure to note that this applies only to “…the primary user of a licensed device to remotely access licensed software running in your datacenter from qualified third party devices” so situations where the licensed device is shared amongst users (no primary user), the software is running somewhere other than your datacenter or the device is not a third party device (for example it is owned by your company or an affiliate) are not covered by the new Roaming Use Rights.

Read more about these changes and others related to desktop virtualization!

Is this change going to help you? How did you handle these situations before Roaming Use Rights? I’d be curious to hear so please comment.

Microsoft Q4 Earnings Seven Facts Likely to Be Spun

Microsoft Q4 Earnings Seven Facts Likely to Be Spun

Microsoft will announce its fiscal 2010 earnings Thursday afternoon, and the pressure is on Redmond to deliver big numbers now that PCs sales have jumped this year, Windows 7 is the "fastest selling OS ever" and Office 2010 is generally available.

The elephant in the room will be Apple's $15.7 billion revenues for Q3 2010 that blew past Wall Street estimates. This was a new quarterly revenue record for Jobs and company.

Tomorrow's earnings report will mark the end of Microsoft's 2010 fiscal year (which ended June 30). In preparation for how Microsoft's earnings will break down and what the brain trust in Redmond will focus on (and what it will try to conceal), analyst Matt Rosoff from independent research firm Directions on Microsoft MCTS Training outlined seven key themes to bear in mind regarding the state of Microsoft's business.

Microsoft's cash cows are, and always have been, the Windows division, the business division (which includes Office, Exchange and SharePoint) and the Server and Tools division (Windows Server, SQL Server etc). Windows and Office are the most profitable, with around 70 percent profit margins. If all these divisions are growing and profiting then Microsoft is in good health, writes Rosoff. If they are contracting in any way, that means trouble.

Other Segments Exist for Competitive Reasons, Not Revenue

Microsoft's Entertainment and Devices division, comprised of Xbox and mobile platforms, provides decent revenue - about 13 percent of Microsofts total last year - but very thin margins. The Online segment, mostly advertising from Bing and MSN, accounts for only about 5 percent of Microsofts revenue and has been bleeding money for the last few years. It will probably lose about $2 billion in fiscal year 2010.

[ For complete coverage on Microsoft's new Windows 7 operating system -- including hands-on reviews, video tutorials and advice on enterprise rollouts -- see CIO.com's Windows 7 Bible. ]

Do not focus on the finances of these segments, writes Rosoff, because they basically exist for competitive and strategic reasons, not revenue. Bing exists to curb Google's revenue growth, which would prevent Google from cutting into Microsoft's Office profits via Google Apps; Xbox gives Microsoft a consumer brand to compete with Sony and Apple; and the mobile business exists to stop competing smartphone platforms from cutting into sales of Windows on portable PCs.

Unearned Revenue Shows if Big Customers are Buying

"Unearned revenue" offers a good clue about Microsoft's financial health. Whenever enterprise customers like large companies and government agencies make annual payments on multi-year software licensing contracts, Microsoft doesn't book the revenue right away. It puts that money in a bucket called unearned revenue, and then staggers that money into earned (regular) revenue over the course of the year. Fluctuations in unearned revenue indicate how many customers are renewing these multi-year contracts, and how much software they're buying through them.

100 DVDs to be stored on a single disc
New holographic storage technology will allow data equal to 100 DVDs to be stored on a single disc.

US-based General Electric (GE) claims to have achieved a major breakthrough in storage technology. The company has developed a new holographic storage technology that will allow data volumes equal to over 100 DVDs to be stored on a single disc. The current standard capacity of DVDs is 4.7 GB, and if this is to be believed, a disc will now be able to store a colossal 470 GB of data Microsoft MCTS Training.

The product, according to GE, is still in its testing phase and needs more work before it is launched. In the holographic technique, memory is stored in three dimensions as well as in the ‘normal' binary format. So this storage technique allows more data to be written on the same surface area. Holographic storage packs data more densely than conventional optical technology Microsoft MCITP Certification.

In the holographic technique, memory is stored in three dimensions as well as in the ‘normal' binary format. So this storage technique allows more data to be written on the same surface area. Holographic storage packs data more densely than conventional optical technology Microsoft MCITP Certification.

Enterprise Applications And Mid-tier Caching

Enterprise Applications And Mid-tier Caching
Here's an interesting take on how an enterprise application can be made to achieve high performance, scale and high availability, using mid-tier caching.

Modern enterprise applications are being pushed to become faster, with a higher scale. Consequently, the 3-tier architecture model is changing to move data closer to the applications and to integrate data from several sources.
In addition, requirements of a higher scale are forcing applications to tolerate staleness and move towards weaker forms of consistency. These changes are being facilitated by:

* Hardware trends in 64-bit architecture, multi-core processors and inexpensive memory
* Ubiquitous data ‘in motion and everywhere'; and
* More and more enterprise applications require a faster and inexpensive scale, along with resilience to failure.

Welcome to the world of ‘mid-tier caching', also known as ‘cache tier' or simply ‘caching'.

The next generation applications are composite, aggregating data and business logic from sources that can be local, federated, or cloud-based. Data and applications can reside in different tiers with different semantics and access patterns. For example, data in back-end servers/clusters or in the cloud tends to be authoritative; data on the wire is message-oriented; data in the mid-tier is either cached data for performance or application session data; and data on the devices could be local data or data cached from back-end sources.

With the costs of memory going down, fairly large caches can be configured on the desktop and server machines. With the maturity of 64-bit hardware, 64-bit CPUs are becoming mainstream for client and server machines. True 64-bit architecture support dramatically increases memory limits (to bytes). For example, desktops can be configured with 16 GB (gigabyte) RAM, and servers can be configured with up to 2 TB (terabyte) of RAM. Large memory caches allow for data to be located close to the application, thereby providing significant performance benefits to applications. In addition, in a world where hundreds of gigabytes of storage is the norm, the ability to work with most data in memory (large caches) and easily shift from tables to trees and on to graphs of objects, is key to programmer productivity for next-generation applications. While the query-based access is a requirement, the data access, management requirements and semantics of caches are different from what commercial DBMSs support.

Over_view_of_distributed_cacheCaching in applications
As described earlier, data can reside in different tiers (in different service boundaries) with different semantics. For example, data stored in the backend database is authoritative and requires a high degree of data consistency and integrity. Typically, there tends to be a single authoritative source for any data instance. Most data in the mid-tier, being operated by the business logic, can tend to be a copy of the authoritative data. Such copies are suitable for caching. Understanding the different types of data and their semantics in different tiers, helps define the different degrees of caching that is possible Microsoft MCTS Training.

Reference data

Reference data is a version of the authoritative data. It is either a direct copy (version) of the original data or aggregated and transformed from multiple data sources. Reference data is practically immutable-changing the reference data (or the corresponding authoritative data) creates a new version of the reference data. This means that every reference data version is unique. Reference data is an ideal candidate for caching; as the reference data does not change, it can be shared across multiple applications (users), thereby increasing the scale and performance.
Consider a product catalogue application aggregating product information across multiple backend applications and data sources. ReferenceData

The most common operation on the catalogue data is read (or browse). A typical catalogue browse operation iterates over a large amount of product data, filters it, personalises it, and then presents the selected data to the users. Key-based and query-based access is a common form of operation. Caching is a critical requirement for catalogue access. If not cached, operations against such an aggregate catalogue require the operations to be broken up into operations on the underlying sources -- invoke the underlying operations, collect responses, and aggregate the results into cohesive responses. Accessing the large sets of backend data for every catalogue operation can be prohibitively expensive, and can significantly impact the response time and throughput of the application. Caching the backend product data closer to the catalogue application can significantly improve the performance and the scalability of the application. Similarly, aggregated flight schedules are another example of reference data.

Referenced data is refreshed periodically, usually at pre-configured intervals, from its sources, or refreshed when the authoritative data sources change. Access to reference data, though shared, is mostly read. Local updates are often performed for tagging (to better organise the data). To support a large scale, reference data can be replicated in multiple caches on different machines in a cluster. As shown below, in a social networking scenario, details of the friends list, usernames associated with a particular ID/user login, etc would be such reference data that is easy to cache and provides high scalability Microsoft MCITP Certification.

MS08-067 and Unsupported Products

MS08-067 and Unsupported Products

Before we spend some time talking about the Extended Hotfix Support program for DST, I thought it would be a good idea to address a number of questions we have recently received regarding the release of MS08-067. Most of the questions that we have received have been regarding older, unsupported products and services packs. We’ve received questions regarding Windows 95, Windows NT 3.51, Windows NT 4.0, Windows XP SP1 and Windows 2000 SP3, just to name a few Microsoft MCTS Training.

Under the Support Lifecycle policy, once a product reaches the end of support we no longer provide any support for that product. What does that mean? Basically, this means we stop providing any new information or assisted support for the product. After the end of support, we leave the knowledgebase information online for a minimum of 12 months. We do not provide security updates, any assisted support (telephone support), nor assistance through Premier or Professional support, etc…

From a security point of view, running an unsupported version should be considered a significant security risk in itself. Since Microsoft MCITP Certification does not produce security updates or provide any type of assisted support for unsupported versions, customers are taking a significant risk by running these versions within their environment. If you encounter any types of issues with an unsupported product, there are no Microsoft resources available to help.

Remember, to continue to receive support and security updates, you must be running on a supported product and on a supported service pack version. More information on this can also be found on our website at http://support.microsoft.com/lifecycle/.

Thanks for your continued questions and comments. We’ll get back to the DST discussion within the next week or so.

Singapore offers a great eco-system for Indian IT companies

Singapore offers a great eco-system for Indian IT companies
Lee Eng Keat, regional director-India, Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB) -the lead government agency responsible for the economic development of Singapore-discusses the advantages that Singapore brings to the table for Indian IT companies looking to go global and expand markets, or to collaborate with global players to develop innovative products for the world market.

What is your take on the Indian IT industry and what advantages does Singapore offer to companies in this vertical?
Indian IT companies are very cosmopolitan, technology savvy, sophisticated and innovative. They are proactive and have been venturing into global markets, such as the US and Europe, and are also making acquisitions there.

Apart from this, these companies enjoy a strong advantage of having access to a cost-effective and English speaking workforce. The US and European companies are bridging the cost arbitrage by being in India, and that will continue unabated. Now the question is, what can Singapore bring to the table? The additional angle that Singapore offers is a great eco-system for Indian IT companies as we are close to many international technology players, along with having access to leading end-users in both MNCs and Singapore companies. The Singapore government plays a very active role in pushing the envelope of innovation.
According to a recent report published by the Singapore-EDB, Singapore is home to over 3,800 Indian companies. This comprises the second largest foreign corporate contingent in Singapore, after Malaysia. Of these firms, IT companies make up a substantial chunk, with India's 20 major IT firms like Tata Consultancy Services, HCL Technologies and i-flex Solutions, hosting various functions, which range from their headquarter operations and R&D centres to their business continuity and disaster recovery centres, in the city state Microsoft MCTS Training.

Considering the global scenario in general and Singapore's eco-system in particular, what kind of innovations are desirable in today's times?
Innovators can focus on developing urban solutions. About half the population of the world is going to be living in cities, and IT solutions in security, transport management, energy consumption, urban management and water management, are all going to be key areas to focus on. Apart from these, solutions related to healthcare covering hospital management, the delivery of treatment to people, etc, have also become crucial, considering that complicated diseases are on the rise in cities.

In Singapore, we are working with the Housing Development Board (HDB) and the Public Utilities Board (PUB) to develop the solutions that are required in the present scenario. Once we have identified opportunities, , we open the platform for technology companies and facilitate their interaction with statutory bodies to take the dialogue forward on the kind of products/solutions that are required, in order to address the identified needs.

What are the recent innovations that EDB has played a role in developing?

The Singapore government has supported innovations like the electronic road pricing systems, train monitoring systems, and has deployed mobile TVs on buses, etc. Specifically, the EDB has facilitated companies like Tech Mahindra to test-bed their mobile applications in Singapore, for example, the distribution of FIFA (Federation Internationale de Football Association) content through mobile phones. Tech Satyam also turned to Singapore to develop its business intelligence solutions and mobile applications, while TCS (Tata Consultancy Services) has set up a banking technology centre here. Recently, Siemens set up its City of the Future showcase centre in Singapore.

According to you, when is a company ready to venture into international markets like Singapore?
Generally, a company needs to grow to a certain critical mass so that it is able to spare resources and management time to explore markets or develop products, overseas. Only when a company has the required financial resources and management bandwidth will it be in a better position to think of Singapore as a centre for business expansion.

Does this mean that start-ups can never think of venturing into global markets?

Most start-ups are focused on domestic markets. That is their general characteristic. But for those start-ups that are looking towards international horizons, the Singapore government has a programme that offers seed funding or dollar-for-dollar investment funding to encourage them. But the condition is that these firms need to patent their IP (intellectual property) in Singapore.

How can start-ups apply for these programmes?
SPRING Singapore is the enterprise development agency set up to grow innovative companies. The agency has the SPRING SEEDS scheme for promising and innovative start-ups that are creating intellectual content with a strong potential for success in the international markets.

However, to qualify for the scheme, there are a few conditions, such as, a start-up is required to be a private limited company incorporated for less than five years in Singapore and must have a paid-up capital of at least S$50,000, but not more than S$1 million; it must carry out its core activities in Singapore and be involved in developing new or better products, processes and applications, etc.
What benefits/support does EDB offer to firms that shift base to Singapore?
For those that are interested in exploring product development efforts or interested in using Singapore to serve the region, we help facilitate introductions that would help them achieve their goals faster Microsoft MCITP Certification.

For product development, EDB helps to identify possible technology partners, such as companies or research institutes that are able to augment their efforts and shortening their time to market.
For those wishing to use Singapore as a base for the region, EDB provides suggestions on various partners that have experience in overseas markets.

Are there any examples of such start-ups from India or other countries that have received funding from the Singapore EDB? How are they faring now?

No publicly announced examples are currently available.

Any suggestions from your side for Indian IT start-ups to make the most of the opportunities in Singapore?

There are many ways in which start-ups can leverage on the opportunities that Singapore has to offer with its efficient pro-business environment, connectivity and extensive business networks. With regards to IT start-ups, the Singapore IT Federation organises networking sessions for IT companies in Singapore, and provides regular updates on developments in Singapore IT industry through websites such as www.ida.gov.sg. There is also the annual IT conference, CommunicAsia, where start-ups can obtain the latest updates on technology trends and get the opportunity to interact with other IT companies in Asia.

Get The Boot - A Birds-eye Look Into MCTS Certification Training

Get The Boot - A Birds-eye Look Into MCTS Certification Training

MCTS Certification Training have its supporters and its detractors. Some people do not understand why you should have to spend money on boot camp when you can get the MCSE study materials yourself at a fraction of the camp price. However, who has the willpower to actually sit through a self-imposed MCTS Training? Not too many people! That is what the MCTS Certification Training are for.

These boot camps are typically an intense two-week long MCSE training course that prepares you for the MCSE exams. Some companies that conduct boot camps offering Microsoft MCITP certification, especially the MCSE, guarantee that you will pass your MCSE exams. If you happen to fail, they will usually issue a voucher to try it again. For many people who attend these MCTS Certification Training, it is preferable to have an intense two weeks with little to distract you rather than drawing out the classes for weeks with outside influences like work and family interfering with study time. Sure, being gone for two weeks is a temporary hassle, but you will have your certification in a fraction of the time.

Did you catch the being gone for two weeks bit? You can probably find a boot camp near your home, but most likely you will end up attending an MCSE boot camp away from your home, far enough away where it is not worth it to commute. Two weeks away from home? That doesnt sound like a picnic! But just think of the rewards you will reap after trudging through all that MCSE training and taking the MCSE exams.

If you are lucky, your company will pick up the tab on your Microsoft MCITP certification. Paying on your own is a major investment, usually a few thousand dollars depending on where the location is and if hotel and meals are included in the price. For your money, you will get a tough instructor, an MCSE drill sergeant for lack of a better description. That instructors reputation is on the line, so he or she will be motivated to ensure your success. That is why the success rate for these MCTS Certification Training is high, in some places as high as 95%!

For your investment, you will have numerous MCSE training sessions in Networking Basics as well as learning about the infrastructure of a network. You will study security design, directories and how to manage Windows network environments. Hands-on training in learning labs with after-hours access for extra practice is the norm. Practice MCSE exams are also given out as a study tool and to also help prepare you for your own test time.

Microsoft MCITP certification are here to stay and the MCSE is a popular avenue to travel. If you have got the time and can swing the cost, MCTS Certification Training will definitely give you a boost into a new career.

The fast-changing and cutting edge technology now demands qualified systems engineers who comprise proficiency in managing systems. Sensing the demand of the time and to cope up with this surging issue, Microsoft has come up with a certification system that effectively assesses an individual about Microsoft platforms and servers. MCSE certification is extremely significant for those wish to do extremely well technologically as well as financially. The certification assists one establish his/her claim of being a proficient in this platform. It also helps individuals to execute and design the infrastructure needed in Windows 2000 and Windows server 2003.

Different sets of examinations make one capable of performing the functions on both the enumerated platform. Individuals chalking out plans to have training in IT will face the MCSE boot camp to get their goal. The MCTS Training endows with a rigorous training to help students get trained, get ahead of the examination and be ready to capably face whatever comes their way in while working with a company. The notion of MCSE boot camp is now a force to be reckoned with for its intensity. The majority of MCSE boot camp is set to stretch around two weeks.

Together with the inclusion of air transportation, lodging and meals, the charge of the boot camp gets to touch a comparatively higher level. Employers are supposed to shell out for the cost of the camp for the most of the time. For the specified period of the boot camp, students are engaged in seven certification examinations. During the same period, the students are made out to work as instructed by instructors to perk oneself up for each examination. Being only the qualified and trained instructors around having supremacy in all Microsoft platforms, students get bright prospects to gain and learn immensely.

Besides, students are placed amid various practical guides with advanced hardware and software and get access to a twenty four hour lab. With the assured success assertions, having training under a boot camp comes with lots of gains. Though, in case of failures looming large, the instructors often spot and tame such mistakes reliably and smooth the progress of re-examination. Ecommerce B2b And B2c Integration With Microsoft Dynamics Gp Technology Notes

Ecommerce B2b And B2c Integration With Microsoft Dynamics Gp Technology Notes

eCommerce existing websites with shopping carts, customer specific price lists and items catalogs integration projects are in rapid expansion mode, especially considering huge number of Great Plains Dynamics GP installations USA and Canada nationwide and internationally: Spanish Speaking Latin America, UK, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Oceania, English speaking South East Asia. This small article targeted to mid-size businesses IT departments, considering complete or partial ecommerce application integration to Dynamics GP, formerly known as Great Plains Dynamics and eEnterprise:

1.eCommerce integration technologies. Dynamics GP eConnect is perfect tool for Microsoft MCTS Training Visual Studio ecommerce programmer, it has scenarios and code samples in C# and VB, so feel comfortable to deploy your programming language of choice. In eConnect you probably want to program real time ecommerce shopping cart and customer invoice integration. If you are OK with batch level integration: one time per day or every hour or even every twenty minutes, please consider Dynamics GP Integration Manager. In this article we would like to share our philosophy, where we are trying you first to consider out of the box tools and modules, before you begin considering Dynamics ISV Partners Add-Ons and Custom Modules. eCommerce is not an exception from general Corporate ERP Implementation rule, where you stay away from customizations and third party products and try to consider native functionality and technology on the first place. As you know Dynamics GP ERP application requires customer participation in MBS Dynamics annual enhancement program, and each Dynamics GP ISV partner has its own annual enhancement program, and this simple fact may make your life really dependent on membership extension dates

2.Dynamics GP ISV Partners eCommerce Solutions selection process. If you think that Dynamics GP Integration Manager does not do the job for your ecommerce shopping cart integration, and eConnect SDK is too complex for your IT department programmers, or learning curve is too long, please consider Great Plains Partners maintained Add-ons, sometimes referred as GP Satellites/ Let's talk about Dynamics GP ecommerce add-ons. Alba Spectrum offer wide range of products: Dynamics GP Posting Server (allowing you to post GP batches directly from ecommerce application code, as the reminder - eConnect cannot post Great Plains Batches, this logic is reserved architecturally to GP user), Great Plains Order Connector (where we are adding new Accounting and Corporate ERP applications to the list of connectable systems). Order Connector has multiple popular ecommerce templates and shopping cart integration plug ins, please check with us for details

3.B2B ecommerce integration via Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0. Here you have out of the box functionality, which allows you to integrate Customer Quotes and Sales Orders directly to Dynamics GP Sales Order Processing Module. There are add-ons for MS CRM, allowing you to run it as simple B2B ecommerce portal. If you do not have MS CRM implemented in your organization and you are not familiar with MS CRM as a user, please go on to the next paragraph

4.Dynamics GP Business Portal. We are enthusiasts of Microsoft MCITP Certification Dynamics Business Portal. Even if at this time it is limited in its functionality and Dynamics GP ecommerce ISV partners could offer better logic, in the long run we are staking on native Microsoft Dynamics Business Portal solution. At this time, October 2009 we feel that we are one of the leaders pushing Dynamics GP Business Portal Modules: Electronic Document Delivery, Order Management, Requisition Management (with Requisition Approval Hierarchy), Human Resources Employee Self Service (Pay Stubs and W2 reports printing). There are several competing clones to Dynamics GP Business Portal Requisition management and Order Management modules from Dynamics GP ISV partners, we recommend you to take conservative approach. In GP Business Portal, please review Order Management module, as it is intended for B2B ecommerce

5.Dynamics GP ecommerce for legacy Great Plains Versions. If you are without Microsoft Business Solutions Annual Support and you still use old Great Plains Dynamics versions 8.0, 7.5, 7.0, 6.0, 5.5, 5.0, 4.0 3.2 or Great Plains Accounting for DOS, Windows and Mac (often referred as Macintosh), we strongly recommend you to upgrade first to Dynamics GP Version 10.0 or 9.0, where eConnect SDK came to its maturity. In our opinion it doesn't make sense to program Great Plains eCommerce to pull data from GPA for DOS Btrieve tables. However we respect your opinion and case, if you have old Great Plains version, please give us a call: 1-866-528-0577

6.How to get help? Please, feel free to call us: 1-866-528-0577, outside of USA: 1-630-961-5918 or email us help@albaspectrum.com We are very technical and real Dynamics GP Dexterity, SAP Business One SDK programming gurus. We have Great Plains Software Development Factory and could support unlimited Dynamics GP Customization and Programming needs. Plus we speak English, Chinese, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, and not only as native speaking sales folks, but as real technical consultants. If you prefer skype: albaspectrum

unexpected Error 25012 Causes Database Corruption In Microsoft Access

unexpected Error 25012 Causes Database Corruption In Microsoft Access
Microsoft Access is a widely used database management system, which is the part of Microsoft Office suite of products, developed and marketed by Microsoft Corporation. Access stores all your significant data in the form of database, which is stored in MDB (Microsoft Access 2003 and earlier) and AccDB (Microsoft MCTS Training Office Access 2007) file formats. It is made up of several objects, which are assigned different tasks and work together to store and organize your data. The MS Access database objects are managed and controlled by Jet Database Engine. In case any of the database objects get damaged or become inaccessible, you may lose access to your database and come across critical database corruption situations. In such cases, you must repair Access database to extract data from it.
Sometimes when you try to open an Access database (either MDB or AccDB), the process fails and you come across the underwritten error message:

Unexpected error 35012

After this behavior, you cannot access the database and stored data from it. It leads to critical data loss situations. To gain access of your database in such cases, you need to find out the root of this issue and then perform Access database recovery by resolving it.

What causes 'Unexpected error 35012' in Microsoft Access?

This behavior occurs if one or more of the Microsoft Access database are corrupted. The most significant objects of Microsoft Access database include tables, reports, forms, macros, stored procedure, triggers, constraints, and more.

Access database objects may get damaged due to various reasons, such as virus infection, improper system shutdown, application malfunction, file system errors, operating system corruption, file header corruption, and Jet database engine errors.

How to fix 'Unexpected error 35012' in Microsoft MCITP Certification Access?

Go through the below steps to sort out this issue:
Create new Access database.
Point to 'Get External Data' on File menu, and click Import.
Exclude the corrupted objects while importing and restore them from backup.

If the above method cannot resolve your problem or you do not have a good backup, MDB recovery becomes need of hour. It is best possible using commercial database repair applications.

Access recovery software are particularly designed to scan whole database and restore all corrupted objects from it. They are incorporated with interactive and simple graphical user interface to offer easy recovery in all database corruption scenarios.

Microsoft Office Conditional Formatting Tricks

Microsoft Office Conditional Formatting Tricks
In this article youll get to learn Excel formatting tips that will make your life a whole lot easier. I will primarily deal with conditional formatting and will cover its two major areas Microsoft MCTS Training.

Highlighting Table in a Repeating Table

If you want to use conditional formatting in order to highlight data in a repeating table, you should understand that repeating tables work in a similar method as repeating sections. However, if you set a condition for a repeating table, with every row of the table an independent condition is applied.

Say for example, you want a repeating table which contains a list of customers and the third column of the table is the number of years that the customer has been with a specific company. In this case we want the to highlight customers that have been with the company over 5 years by turning the row blue, and highlight customers who have been there with the company over 10 years by turning the row green.

First of all we need to insert a repeating table:

When you are in design mode, you can start by inserting a repeating table onto the form, youll be asked for the number of columns required you can leave it with default value 3 and hit OK.

Now we have to work on specifying the conditions for the conditional formatting:

For this you first need to select the repeating table, and then click Conditional Formatting from the Format menu. Now, in the Conditional Formatting dialog box, we need to click Add in order to add a condition. When you are in the Conditional Format dialog box, under If this condition is true, within the first drop down list you must now select the field that corresponds to the text box in the third column of the repeating table. When you reach the second drop-down list, select is greater than. Correspondingly, in the third drop down list you should first select Type a number and then key in 5. Now under, Then apply this formatting, in the Background color list you must now select the color blue and hit OK so that the first condition is saved. All you need to do now is to repeat these steps again in order to add second condition and replace 5 by 10 also select green as the background color. You can order the conditions using the Move Up and Move Down buttons in the Conditional Formatting dialog Box Microsoft MCITP Training, to make

sure that the greater than 10 condition is on top.
TIP The sequence of conditions applied is from top to bottom. Hence, in case a greater than 10 condition is on top, this condition will never be applied as anything that is greater than 10 is also greater than 5.

We can now preview and test the conditional formatting:

For this we just need to click Preview Form on the Standard toolbar. We can now add some rows to the table and start entering numbers in the third column to make sure that the conditions we specified are being applied in a correct manner.

NOTE When you type 10 it wont satisfy the greater than 10 condition, so it is suggested that we change the condition to greater than or equal to 10.

70-924 Another Exam Passed

70-924 Another Exam Passed

As per my previous post, Where has Todd been Hiding? I wrote 70-294 – Planning, Implementing, and Maintaining a Microsoft MCTS Training Windows Server 2003 Active Directory Infrastructure. I found the self-paced Study guide and practice tests with the book a good resource to study with. I had also participated in the OWSUG study group for 70-294, wrote and passed the 71-640 (AD on 2008) beta exam and work with the topics that the exam covers. I was pretty prepared for this exam and as a result, passed the exam. I found there was a lot of reading on this exam, more than I had experienced on the previous 290-series exams.

My next exam is booked for August 14th and is the 70-297 – Designing a Windows Server 2003 Active Directory and Network Infrastructure exam which is the last exam I need for my MCSE. For this one I need to do some serious prep work for as I believe this is an exam based on case studies. You get a case study, then you need to answer questions on that case study, then on to next case study. I will be using the Microsoft MCITP Training 70-297 self-paced study kit and the Microsoft e-learning courses to help me prepare for this exam. As I study, I may post some questions from the various chapters as I go along, like Garth is doing for the 70-298 exam on OWSUG.ca.

Major Shakeup at Microsoft's Consumer Products Division

Major Shakeup at Microsoft's Consumer Products Division
Microsoft on Wednesday revealed a major internal shakeup that will see several key players in its Entertainment & Devices division—responsible for the Xbox, Zune, and Windows Phone brands, among others—leave the company. Most notable among the losses are E&D President Robbie Bach and Senior Vice President J Allard. Bach had been at the company for 22 years and is largely responsible for Microsoft's current lineup of underwhelming consumer offerings. That said, the company is positioning his exit in a positive light Microsoft MCTS Training.

"For the past 22 years, Robbie has personified creativity, innovation, and drive," Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer said. "With this spirit, he has led a division passionately devoted to making Microsoft successful in interactive entertainment and mobility. Robbie's an amazing business person and close personal friend, which makes his departure a point of sadness for me. However, given the strong leadership team he has built, the business performance of E&D this year, and the launches of Windows Phone 7 and 'Project Natal' this fall, we are set up well for success as we continue to drive our mobile and entertainment businesses forward."

E&D, of course, has been anything but successful. It sat on Windows Mobile while Apple ran away with the consumer smartphone market and then eventually had to cancel that product, which dated back 15 years, to start again with Windows Phone. It copied the Apple playbook with its Zune MP3 players, which failed dramatically in the marketplace. And even its most successful product, the Xbox 360, is something of a disaster: It will never recoup the billions in R&D investments it incurred, was the subject of the worst-ever consumer electronics recall in history because of rampant reliability issues, and despite being in the market for a year longer than the competition, has been dramatically outsold by the less sophisticated Nintendo Wii. The Project Natal that Ballmer mentioned above is in fact just a belated response to the Wii's most innovative feature: motion control.

In a letter to his employees this week, Bach took the high road, describing the next generation of E&D products as Act II. "We are now winning reviews, critical acclaim, and consumer love," he claimed. "And we are ready to embark on the next generation of products and the next wave of inventions over the next 3-5 years."

Bach also explained the organizational changes that will occur as he slowly exits the company later this year. Starting July 1, Senior Vice President Don Mattrick, who oversees Microsoft's Interactive Entertainment Business, and Senior Vice President Andy Lees, who leads the Mobile Communications Business, will begin reporting directly to Ballmer.

J Allard, who has been with Microsoft for 19 years and also has had a hand in all of E&D's offerings, will leave the company but "take an official role as an advisor in a strategic role for Ballmer and his leadership team Microsoft MCITP Certification."

With due respect to Bach and Allard, it's pretty clear a change was necessary. Hopefully, Mr. Ballmer won't try to continue micromanaging E&D but will instead transition the division to a leader and team that actually understand the consumer market. This has been a glaring problem for far too long, and it's nice to see something finally happening there.

Migrating to SharePoint 2010

Migrating to SharePoint 2010

In 2008, Microsoft SharePoint became the fastest server-side product from the company to gross $1 billion in revenue. That’s no surprise as there is no other single product that can deliver the diversity of features that is so desperately needed by today’s organizations. Going into 2010, Microsoft has not been resting on its laurels and will be releasing a major upgrade, dubbed SharePoint 2010 Microsoft MCTS Training.

Although this release has significant user experience, performance, and other improvements, migrations will test the mettle of even seasoned IT pros as they upgrade their current SharePoint environments. New hardware and software requirements, architectural changes, and UI changes in the product will require solid migration and testing plans to ensure these upgrades proceed smoothly.

My goal of this migration article isn’t to illustrate every detail step-by-step. Instead, I’ll highlight the major aspects of a migration and prepare you for some of the gotchas. This guidance is based on the beta 2 version of SharePoint 2010 and applies to both SharePoint Foundation (the successor to Windows SharePoint Services—WSS—3.0) and SharePoint Server, which replaces Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS) 2007.

Migration Preparation

As you prepare for your migration effort, the first item to note is the new system requirements. Microsoft SharePoint 2010 will be available only in 64-bit and will require Windows Server 2008 SP2 or Server 2008 R2 as your base OS. On the backend, you must also have a 64-bit edition of Microsoft SQL Server. Supported SQL Server versions are 2005 SP3, 2008 SP1, and 2008 R2. SharePoint also requires the Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 and a few other components, so check technet.microsoft.com/library/cc262485(office.14).aspx for the full list. Those of you building development environments will be able to run SharePoint 2010 on Windows Vista SP1 or Windows 7, but this won't be supported for production use.

Another key prerequisite is that you must patch your SharePoint farm to at least MOSS 2007 SP2 before you upgrade. You can determine your current build by looking at SharePoint’s version number. Simply go to Central Administration, click the Operations tab, then select Servers in Farm. If your version number is less than 12.0.0.6421, you’ll need to upgrade to at least SP2. Note: For those still running SharePoint Portal Server (SPS) 2003, you'll first need to upgrade to MOSS 2007 before you can migrate to 2010. For more details on migrating from SPS 2003, see the Microsoft SharePoint Team Blog post "Planning for Upgrade from SharePoint Portal Server 2003 to SharePoint Server 2010."

In SharePoint SP2 (and improved in the October 2009 cumulative update), Microsoft added a new operation to Stsadm to help facilitate your upgrade to 2010. The utility is called Pre-Upgrade Checker, and you can think of it as an upgrade compatibility report. I strongly recommend running the tool on your current SharePoint farms. It assesses the health of your farm and suggests areas that you should correct before upgrading. By health, I mean it will inspect the state of various components, such as features, site definitions, and content databases, and it tells you whether these are functioning properly. You run the command directly from one of the SharePoint servers in your farm. It might take anywhere from a couple of minutes to an hour or more depending on how many databases you have and the overall complexity of your farm. Here is the basic command syntax Microsoft MCITP Certification:

stsadm –o preupgradecheck

This command won't make any changes to your environment. It's safe to run multiple times, although I recommend running it during off-peak hours because of the load it will place on your servers. When the execution is complete, the tool prepares a detailed HTML web report. Figure 1 displays a sample report I ran on one of my farms:

Reading through and understanding the report will take some time. Blocking (or failed) issues are those that you must address before upgrading. As Figure 1 shows, SharePoint isn't running on a 64-bit edition of Server 2008. The report will also include useful information items. Most issues have links to online materials that explain the problem in more detail. Although these information items might not be major problems, they could complicate the upgrade, and doing an upgrade won't resolve them. As much as possible, you should resolve these problems before you upgrade. For more details on the Pre-Upgrade Checker, see "Run the pre-upgrade checker (SharePoint Server 2010)."

Another important preparation step is to review your current customizations. SharePoint customizations come in many forms, and I am referring to those that involve changes to the file system on your SharePoint servers. This can include custom features, site definitions, field types, web parts, event receivers, assemblies; manual changes to files in the SharePoint root (C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\12); changes to web.config files; third-party software; and custom SharePoint solutions. SharePoint can be customized in many ways, so this is not a complete list. I know this is a tall order but might be very important as I’ll explain shortly.

Do you have a change log that documents what changes were made? If not, start working on one today! This is also important for disaster-recovery purposes. A useful tip is to use a program like SourceForge WinMerge to compare the contents of your SharePoint root to an unmodified one. If you run third-party software, this would be a good time to contact the vendor to see if the software is compatible with SharePoint 2010.

Upgrade Options

The next step in your migration plan is to decide what type of upgrade you’ll be doing. As it relates to the actual servers in the farm, Microsoft provides only two major upgrade options: in place and database attach. These are very different approaches, so I’ll review each of them. For those that have experience with upgrading from SPS 2003 (or WSS 2.0), you’ll notice that the side-by-side and gradual upgrade options are no longer options when upgrading to 2010. Third-party SharePoint migration products that give you more upgrade options are also available.

In-place upgrade. An in-place upgrade is designed to be the basic upgrade option. It’s an all-at-once upgrade in which you upgrade all the servers in your farm at the same time. Although basic, it’s risky since once you start the upgrade, there’s no cancel option to go back. Fortunately, the upgrade works fairly well, and even if you experience hiccups, it should resume where it left off. To perform an in-place upgrade, you must meet the 64-bit and Server 2008 requirements covered already. So, for example, if some servers in your current farm are running Windows Server 2003, you will first need to upgrade those before you begin an in-place upgrade.

If you decide an in-place upgrade is right for you, plan on and schedule downtime for the upgrade process. How long the upgrade will take depends on the speed of your servers and the amount of data. Small farms might take only a couple of hours, whereas large ones might take a day or more.

Before you begin, you should stop the World Wide Web Publishing service on each web front end to prevent any HTTP requests. Then, perform a full farm backup. This is just a precautionary step in case the upgrade should fail and you need to return to your previous version.

You start the upgrade by first installing SharePoint 2010 on each of the SharePoint servers. The install is similar to the previous version, although a useful new option can automatically install all software prerequisites. The installer will detect a previous version and will tell you that you’re about to do an in-place upgrade.

Once the install part is done, you need to run the SharePoint Products and Technologies Configuration Wizard on the server that is hosting the Central Administration website. This is where the upgrade actually begins. During the upgrade process, each content database will automatically be upgraded. If you’re running MOSS, each Shared Service Provider (SSP) and its settings will be upgraded and converted into new service applications.
